Have you ever witnessed a set of thigh that belongs to the most “””controversial””” anime protagonist ever? Yes, I put three double quotes there and yes, I was really talking about he– his thighs. But it is indeed a sight to behold as we could see the author’s barely disguised fetish being shoved into the broadcasting company in Japan, and now also available through other means. And today, I just finished the first season after all the hype of the first episode of season 2. And I am not disappointed.

I wrote this with the assumptions that you, the reader, already watched the anime, or read the manga, or at least got exposed to some clips or memes through the internet. The questionable thighs shots that were not aiming towards other female characters in the anime, but towards a certain gir– I mean boy, that surely were not the result of some deranged instructions from the higher ups. And definitely not from the author. You must have seen those clips or memes, or even read and watched it in full LGHDTV4K240FPS or whatever the highest spec available in the market. And I honestly wondered how many of you actually got acting weird because of it. I know well, that it’s every man’s dream to have their head crushed between two heavenly thighs, but I do hope you try to consider yourself.

That being said, an anime that really promote the “Thick thighs saves lives” chants, was able to deliver a solid and high quality production. Can I not talk about every time I got flabbergasted by the visualization on how big the mana capacity Lloyd has? I mean, it’s just heavenly, magical, and actually terrifying. As someone that read the manga first, being given the full color two-pages spread of a tiny speck of Lloyd’s monstrosity, gave the general image on how it would be animated. And boy, if I wasn’t satisfied with the anime. I do think that they put love and care with their job on the line, just like urban legend about how Yokotaro (Nier: Automata) said to put heart into modeling 2B’s ass and make sure it take at least 10GB of data, or you get fired. Of course, the first one is believable but the second one is definitely not. Or is it…
Lets talk about the characters tho
I’ve seen so many absurd main character that has overpowered trope throughout my times on watching anime. Most of them came from the rising “Isekai” genre that Gigguk/Garnt advocates so much, because honestly, it’s a good concept. Coming from another world, either through reincarnation or simply because you got summoned, is really a key to many paths on world building. Although mostly did it dirty, by completely disregarding about the other world, not caring about the world the protagonist currently resides, or disregarding about whatever even, some actually did it great. Take a look at Mushoku Tensei and Chiyu Mahou no Machigai Tsukaikata. Those are several titles where “Isekai” really shone brightly and you can feel safe. But to stay with the first line of this paragraph, Lloyd went through the “Reincarnation” part, which is why there is no “Isekai” mentioned in the title. I mean, duh, why do I need to even mention this. I might have ran out of things to write or because I drank too much energy drink. But to come back again, Lloyd is a nicely written character that turn that overpowered trait into something fun. It really just try to bring “what sort of fun someone with endless possibility can undergo?” concept and turn it into a character. And Lloyd is one great example of this.

Though, I am not without complaints. Mostly, it’s targeted towards other characters that seemingly just plain stupid to not realize about Lloyd. Some were written plain stupid but without any some sort of disturbance towards how the story goes. Like it’s not there just to become a convenient plot device. I am pretty sure that Sylpha already knew about Lloyd’s shenanigans, but because she’s just a mere maid (a powerful one at that), she can just watch and fulfill her duties. After all, being showered with love from a cute shota is probably a form of wet dream every woman of her age in her world have. But back to the point, some characters were unnecessarily dumb, or oblivious. Take example Prince Albert, (wait, was he the first prince or the second? I forgot already), even after all the obvious hints and signs Lloyd made, he just overlooked it because “I love my brother” (this is not incienso, mind you). It felt like a convenient plot armor for Lloyd so he could just continue researching the spell of everything (if any). And was it a good plot armor? Damn, I don’t think so. Good thing is, he wasn’t that relevant in the anime. You were mostly going to put your eyes between the three girls featured in the ending, Sylpha with her boo- I mean swords, Tao with her milk buns (no I’m definitely not being racist), and Ren for the potential “EKUSHUPUROOOSHION (seiyuu joke)” feeling inside your heart upon seeing and hearing her. Like, honestly, Ren is the one to protect, man.

I won’t say much about the visuals and audio aspects because they did it with justice. I do think that people need to throw away their fragile heterosexuality, their fragile masculinity, and just watch this anime. And when Lloyd shows up, you can just think that he is a she, or just accept that you’re a shotacon. All in all, it’s a great anime and great manga also, so I urge you to put this into your watchlist. And also put the second season into your watchlist while you’re at it!
Also Ren, please stay being an assassin. That job spelt “ass” twice and you definitely fits it so well.
